Wisdom of the Ages

A very long time ago, when I was very small, I learned of a very wise man...named MuLing...I studied with him and grew to love him and all his teachings...

Some time later, I moved to Kugnae and started my own circle with the knowledge I learned at his knee...

Then, one day, I received a message...MuLing was very ill, and requested my presence...I lost no time in going to see him...

As he lay there, very weak, he told me this story:

Once upon a time, there was a great tree, with great golden leaves... and those who stood beneath it could ask any question they wished...in their hearts...and that question would be answered for them...

Legends of this tree grew and grew...until KaMing heard them...

Now, in that time, KaMing was the leader of great armies...and decided that he wished to destroy the tree...he set out crossing the lands in search of the tree, with but one intent...to set it afire and purge the earth of the wisdom it bestowed...

In that same time, there was a humble monk who heard of KaMing's quest, and wished to preserve the tree as best he could...so...he infiltrated KaMing's army, and rode with them as the scoured the countryside in search of the tree...KaMing and his army would destroy any trees that resembled the one of the legends...and would kill any who resisted...

As the monk knew would happen...eventually, KaMing and his army happened upon the very tree...and as it was being chopped to the ground and burned, the monk was able to secret away a piece from it...and from this piece of the tree, he carved "the Wisdom of the Ages"...a humble sabre, like unto the ones used by peasants...

...when he reached this part of the story, my mentor, MuLing reached beneath his pillow and drew forth a slightly curved wooden sabre...he handed it to me and said "Take this, my child, and use it wisely"

Shortly thereafter, his body passed away...

Now, this sabre, when held aloft...and when a question is asked of the holder...the one bearing the sword can see in his/her mind's eye...the answer to the question...sometimes it is of a scene which would result from the answer...sometimes it is of several possibilities...but, there is always an answer...
