Memoirs of Madog

Despite having been in the Kingdom of the Winds for some time, I remember having felt "young" when in the presence of, and having first met one, the likes of the Great Madog. For she had been one of the early protagonists, one of the "Pioneering Visionaries" during the golden age (Beta), nurturing the rise of our glorious kingdom. Many Yuris ago, before the time of the Cataclysm - before the time of the dreaded Shattering and before the time of the Reckoning, she had founded and had led the legendary Bear Clan, of which is still very much alive with her vision and aspirations today, as the kingdom's premier (first) female primogen.

Whenever His Royal Majesty's kingdom would come under threat from the various evils that would seemingly enroach from time to time, Lady Madog would forge herself as a driving force, a motivational factor with which to enspirit and inspire our citizens. During the First Sonhi/Koguryian War, with the Sonhi Tribes united under the despotic rule of KaKhan, His Eminence, Prince M'hul would call upon the great leaders of the time to reestablish an ancient pact; The Crow's Circle. These 'Circles' would utilize and draw on the advantage of unmatched unity, efficiency and strength in small, compact groups of the kingdom's elite. Though few in relative numbers whence compared to the KaKhan's hundreds of thousands strong army, these Circles (for the Royal Koguryian Army had not been founded yet) had an unrivalled "quality" - a fact that the KaKhan had sneered at and mocked at the time, only to later face grave defeat at the hands of such Circles.

Many Circles were forged when the Royal Mandate came to pass, one such Circle was the "Sapphire Circle" which included the Lady Madog, the Legendary Three (Sisters Accord, Jaina and Precious), and a small handful of honorable others as well as myself that Luka had founded (forgive me, for I am unable to recall the other heroes of the time). In addition to the numerous other Circles, most notable of these was "Alpha" Circle (being the premier Circle, consisting of the most powerful stalwarts at the time, such as Mountie, Serra, Zhuge, Timothy etc., but that's another story to be told at another time.)

When the battle finally came to, the Circles of Koguryo sprung into action, with the Circles Alpha and Sapphire spearheading the attack deep within the KaKhan's Encampment. Facing and overcoming terrible odds, (such as the fearsome serpent, the "Autumn Thunder", and the KaKhan's hordes) the Circles had managed to deal a stifling blow to the Sonhi invaders. With his pride seared and hatred for the citizens (Townies) growing exponentially, the KaKhan launched a deceptively clever diversionary attack, which saw the Koguryo Valley as one huge battlefield. There came the time when our defenders had their backs pressed literally to the wall; that was at the Koguryo North Gate, where a desperate fight ensued not more than twenty paces in front of it. The KaKhan hordes, aided by traitorous elements (names withheld), were locked in a grizzly close quarters combat with the grimly determined defenders. A last stand was made there - the line had to be held, at any cost, no matter what the cost, lest there would no longer a place to call home. Many of our brethren fell that day, however, if it hadn't been for the courageous efforts of the Lady Madog (and the other Sapphire Circle members as well as the remaining Citizenry holding that line), our Great Kingdom (Eldridge forbid) would have fallen under the cruel dictatorship of the KaKhan.

With his remaining forces shattered, the KaKhan called a retreat, and as the Sonhi invaders withdrew, the war weary citizens began to mourn their losses and bury their fallen comrades. It was a bittersweet victory, for many lives were lost. The Prince M'hul reassured His Highness King Yuri that the Kingdom's interests were safe, so as long as the Crow's Circles were present.

During the shattering, Madog began to gather elite warriors for what would become the mighty Chonguns. Circles once filled with Crows began to appear throughout the kingdoms, and would later become the Circles in which we meet and live today. She sacrificed a Seven-leaf, along with Beanbag, Bucky, and others whose names elude me. Through this sacrifice they created the Spirit Arrow, which was used by her hand to kill Orb.

It could be seen that the Lady Madog continued to play a vital role during the subsequent conflicts, such as the Pirate Invasion of Buya, in which the villainous Bluebeard and his Lieutenant Doggrel had sent forth their sea faring warriors to loot and plunder. At the time, His Majesty King Senshi was bedridden, and Prince Beanbag had been appointed as overseer of Buya. A call for assistance from the embattled Buya was answered by our great kingdom. Once again, the Crow's Circles had deployed for action, with the Sapphire contingent (in which the Lady Madog was apart of) leading an attack on the Pirate Expeditionary Force (which occupied Buya and had laid siege to the Royal Buyian Palace) led by the Infamous Doggrel, whilst His Majesty Prince M'hul personally led an attack on Bluebeard's Flagship with the aid of Alpha Circle and numerous others. As the battle transpired and ended with the swift withdrawal of the Pirates, we had found that although we had won, we had also lost. His Eminence Prince M'hul later confided that a national treasure had been stolen, whilst some of our citizens were too busy looting the cargo holds of Bluebeard's Flagship.

Once again, thanks to individuals like the Great Madog, security was restored to the realms of the Winds.

End Notes:

Madog always came across as a lovely, thoughtful and focused person. She was always kind and sought to help those that were seemingly less fortunate. I was very glad to have known and befriended Madog, she was always fun to hunt with and talk to.

Although, I must say that, since I have learned that Madog had been one of the early Chonguns, I am doubly proud to be a part of the Chongunate. I certainly do hope that my recollections about Lady Madog are helpful in some way to your research.
