The Monk and the Painting

A monk once visited with the lord of a large province and was shown a painting of a solitary goose which had been painted by an artist in the lord's employ. "Geese always fly in flocks," the displeased lord said to the monk, "and I feel that this goose is ignoring his fellow birds." Upon hearing that, the monk took out his brush and wrote this inscription on the painting:

"This is the head of the flock, more will follow, more will follow."

The lord was much happier with the painting after that.
